NOW HIRING: Audio / Video Technology Editor

Company:  The Wirecutter
Website: https://thewirecutter.com
Headquarters: New York, United States

Job Description

Wirecutter, the product-review site owned by The New York Times Company, is seeking an experienced editor to contribute to its coverage of audio and video products.

The ideal candidate will have a deep familiarity with audio and video technology and terminology, experience with hands-on testing, and familiarity with the latest trends in networking and smart products. Most important, however, is a keen awareness of the place these products have in the everyday lives of people who aren’t audiophiles or videophiles. We want to help people get the things they need to experience great sound and picture at home and on the move, with great function, form, and value for the money.

You’ll edit a team of freelance and staff writers, and write reviews as required. We are a remote team that meets on video and Slack regularly. We have offices in New York City and Los Angeles for employees who reside in those cities.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience writing and editing for a major publication, including coverage of technology products in the category of specialization, preferably in a Web environment

Hands-on and coverage experience with typical current audio and video gear, including 4K TVs, projectors, receivers, wireless speakers, and universal remotes, and familiarity with major brands and manufacturers in the category

Understanding of audio terms, calibration, networking, and computing; the ideal candidate doesn’t have to have laboratory expertise, but should be knowledgeable enough to edit writers who are experts in these areas

A network of PR reps and manufacturers in the A/V industry

Minimum 3 years of experience with creating tests for product reviews

Excellent communication skills in a remote work environment

Strong editing skills, and the ability to rein in projects with a big scope

Ability to think creatively about tests
